Papenburg 75pf (Lm.1016)

All the information from my old notgeld (emergency money) site has been copied here, but the layout, design and content has been updated, to include even more notgeld information.

The picture to the right shows the Burgermeister collecting his taxes...but the poor citizen doesn't even have enough money to feed himself! Issued in Papenburg, Germany, in 1921, it is catalogued as Lm.1016 (or Mehl.1044). A 50pf (pfennig) note was also issued with a similar design. (But.......75pf is not a value required in commerce....usually made up from 50+20+5.........this piece of notgeld is of course.....serienscheine.....and was not intended for general circulation!!)

You can join the GNCC for a very small one-off lifetime fee, by selecting the 'GNCC logon' tab above. Happy notgeld collecting from me....Tony the 'notgeldman*from*england' (www*notgeld*com)

Aluminium foil PDF Print E-mail

Notgeld issues are usually metal (coins) or paper issues. Some have appeared, however on other materials including aluminium foil!

Four notes issued by the Vereinigte Aluminium- Werke A.G, in Lautawerk, make a lovely addition to any notgeld collection. All notes are dated 8-10 Oktober 1922 and are for the values of 20, 50, 100 & 500m. They are extremely delicate, being made of aluminium foil. Depicted below is the front of the 20m note. All notes are on a silver aluminium foil. The 20m is green, the 50m is purple, the 100m is black and the 500m is dark blue. All pieces can be seen as 'scarce', with the higher value notes being very expensive!

Another town that issued notgeld on foil was Teningen. These pieces are catalogued in the coloured 'stoffgeld' catalogue by Gietl. The face values are very high as they were issued in 1923.....the period of hyper-inflation. Below can be seen such a note. It is issued on gold foil and has a face value of 100,000,000,000mark!! (The discolouring on the right hand side is the reflection when I took the scan). There is no serial number on this piece (see reverse).

Move your mouse over the image and you will see the reverse of the note! (The top note has a plain back)!!
